Description
Stop typing product codes by hand
Every product needs an SKU that people can read and say, and a barcode that scanners can read. Typing them by hand means gaps, duplicates and “which one did we use last?”.
Automated SKU & Barcode Generator gives every new product both, automatically, the moment you save it.
SKU that makes sense
- Category prefix + separator + padded number, for example
FUR-0042 - Sub-categories inherit the prefix of their parent and share its counter
- Prefix, separator and number of digits are settings
- Set the next number yourself to continue from an old system
Valid EAN-13 barcodes
- 13 digits made of your own prefix, a counter and a valid check digit
- 200 to 299 are the numbers reserved for internal use, so there is no clash with suppliers' barcodes
- Or use the SKU as the barcode (Code 128)
Variants too
A T-shirt in 2 colours and 3 sizes gives six variants: CLO-0001-RED-M, CLO-0001-BLU-LAR… each with its own barcode. Add a colour later and the new variants get their codes too.
Fill the old catalogue in one click
A button on each product and an action on every product list fill the missing codes: for the selected products, a category or all products, with a preview of the counts first. Codes that exist are never touched.
Safe
- Never overwrites a code you typed
- Never creates a duplicate SKU or barcode: a taken code is skipped, archived products and packagings included
- Counters are database sequences, safe when many users save at once

Frequently asked questions
Does it change my existing products?
No. Installing changes nothing. New products get codes from then on, and you can fill the old ones with one click, only where the fields are empty.
Will it overwrite codes I typed?
Never. Only empty Reference and Barcode fields are filled.
Can two products get the same SKU or barcode?
No. A code that is already used by any product (archived ones included) or by a packaging is skipped, and the next free one is taken.
Are the barcodes valid EAN-13?
Yes: your prefix (200 to 299 are reserved for internal use), a counter and a calculated check digit. You can also use the SKU as the barcode (Code 128).
How do variants get their codes?
Each variant gets the product's SKU plus the first letters of its options, such as CLO-0001-RED-M, and its own barcode. Variants added later get codes automatically.
Can sub-categories share the prefix of their parent?
Yes. A sub-category without a prefix uses its parent's and shares its counter. Categories with the same prefix share one counter.
Can I continue the numbering of my old system?
Yes. Open the category and set Next number, for example 5000.
Does it support Arabic?
Yes. The module ships an Arabic translation, and the documentation is available in Arabic with right-to-left layout.
