Automatic Database Backup for Odoo 19 – Scheduled Backups with Filestore, Retention and Failure Email
Back up your Odoo database and filestore on a schedule to a folder on the server. Keep the last backups, delete the old ones, log every run and get an email when a backup fails. Restores with Odoo's database manager.
A database that is not backed up is a database waiting to be lost. Automatic Database Backup takes a backup of your Odoo database and its filestore on a schedule, keeps the last ones, deletes the old ones, logs every run and emails you when a backup fails.
The same file Odoo makes
A zip with the database, the filestore and a manifest: the layout of Odoo's own backup, so it is restored in the database manager
Or a pg_dump custom dump, database only, for pg_restore
We restored one of these backups into a new database to check it
Schedules
Every few hours, daily, weekly or monthly, at the hour you choose (UTC)
As many schedules as you need: a nightly one and a weekly one, in different folders
Backup now and Test the folder from the schedule
Retention that cannot hurt
Keep the last N backups and/or the backups of the last N days
The newest backup is never deleted
Only the files a schedule created are deleted, and only inside its folder: never anything else
Know when it fails
A log of every run: date, result, file, size, duration and the error
An email to the users you choose when a backup fails; the next try is at the next slot, not every few minutes
Please note
Backups go to a folder on the Odoo server (use a mounted disk or your own copy job to take them off the server). The module needs pg_dump and does not work on Odoo Online or Odoo.sh.
Tested
31 automated tests: real backups and their layout, the filestore, the custom format, failures and their emails, retention rules and their safeguards, schedules of every frequency, the job, constraints and access rights.

Frequently asked questions
What does the backup contain?+
A zip with the database dump, the filestore (attachments and images, if you keep it ticked) and a manifest. It is the same layout as Odoo's own backup, so Odoo's database manager restores it.
Where are the backups stored?+
In a folder on the Odoo server that you choose. To keep them off the server, point the folder at a mounted network disk or copy it with your own tools. There is no FTP, SFTP or cloud upload.
How do I restore a backup?+
Open /web/database/manager, press Restore Database, enter the master password and choose the zip. A custom dump is restored with pg_restore.
Can it delete other files in my backup folder?+
No. Only the files listed in the schedule's logs are deleted, only inside its own folder and only if they are named like a backup. The newest backup is never deleted.
What happens when a backup fails?+
The run is logged in red with the error, the partial file is removed, the users you chose get an email, and the next try is at the next slot of the schedule.
Does it work on Odoo Online or Odoo.sh?+
No. It needs access to the server and to pg_dump. Those platforms manage backups for you.
Can I back up several times a day?+
Yes. Choose Every few hours (1 to 24), or make several schedules.
Does it work in Arabic?+
Yes. Everything is translated and works right to left, and the documentation is in Arabic too.
