In plain words: The budget is a spreadsheet and the actuals are an export, so the overrun is discovered at the end of the quarter. Budgets & Budget Control keeps the budget in Odoo Community: lines by account (and by analytic account), what was really spent or earned from your posted entries, what is left, alerts at a threshold and, if you want, a block on what goes over.

Tip: The figures come from the posted entries each time you open the budget: nothing to refresh.

What you get

Feature	What it does
Budgets by period	Any period, in force, draft or closed.
Lines	One or several accounts, expense or income, optionally one analytic account.
Actual	Posted entries in the period; credit notes reduce an expense; analytic distributions count their percentage.
Status	On track, Near the limit (a threshold you choose) or Over budget.
Alerts	An activity for the budget manager when a line reaches the threshold, once per line; checked when an entry is posted and every day.
Control	Follow only, alert at the threshold, or alert and block the posting of a bill or an entry that would go over.
Reports	Budget versus actual in the list, in PDF and in Excel.
Arabic	Everything is translated and works right to left.

Requirements

Install

Unzip the package. Inside is taqnix_budgets.zip; unzip it to get the folder taqnix_budgets.
Copy the folder into one of the addons_path folders of your Odoo server and restart Odoo.
Log in as an administrator, activate Developer mode, open Apps and press Update Apps List.
Remove the “Apps” filter, search Budgets & Budget Control and press Install.

A budget

In plain words: Invoicing → Accounting → Budgets → Budgets → New: the name, the period, the control and the lines. For each line choose the type, the accounts, an optional analytic account and the budget. Press Put in force.

Control	What happens
Follow only	The budget is only a report.
Alert at the threshold	The budget manager gets an activity when a line reaches the threshold or is over.
Alert and block	An alert, and a bill or entry that would take a line over its budget cannot be posted.

By analytic account

In plain words: A line with an analytic account counts only what is distributed to it: a bill split 25% / 75% between two projects counts 25% on the first. A line without analytic account counts every entry on its accounts.

Budget versus actual

In plain words: Budgets → Budget vs actual lists the lines of the budgets in force: budget, reached, left, percentage and status, with totals. Group by budget or by analytic account.

Print and export

In plain words: Print gives the budget in PDF; Excel downloads the lines with their figures.

Limit	Detail
One amount per line	A budget line is for the whole period; there is no split by month.
Company currency	Amounts are in the currency of the company.
Posted entries only	Draft entries are not counted until they are posted.
Blocking	Applies to the posting of bills, invoices and entries; credit notes are never blocked.

Troubleshooting

Problem	What to do
“Budget … would be exceeded”	The control is Alert and block: raise the line, change the control or post it in another period.
The reached amount looks low	Only posted entries count, in the period of the budget, on the accounts (and analytic account) of the line.
No alert received	The budget must be In force with a control other than Follow only, and have a budget manager.
I cannot create a budget	It needs the Advisor group.

Updating and removing

Replace the folder with the new version, restart Odoo and run -u taqnix_budgets. Budgets are kept.
