Description
Salespersons do not need to know what the goods cost
Odoo shows the product Cost and the order Margin to every internal user. A salesperson who can see that a chair costs 55 and sells for 70 negotiates differently, and may tell the customer.
Hide Product Cost & Margins from Salespersons takes cost and margin away from the people you choose, everywhere: in the screens, in the reports, and in the API. One security group decides who still sees them.
What disappears
- The Cost on product forms and on the product and variant lists
- The Cost, Margin and Margin % columns on order lines
- The Margin line under the order totals
- The Margin measure in the sales analysis, and Margin and Inventory value in the invoice analysis
- The same fields in filters, group-bys and exports
Not only the screen
Hiding a field in a view is not enough: Odoo has an open JSON-RPC and XML-RPC API. This module protects the model itself, so a salesperson who asks the server for the cost gets an access error. Reading, searching, grouping, exporting and writing are all refused, and the fields are not even announced to the client.
Nobody has to be edited one by one
The group See Product Cost & Margins is given through the roles Odoo already has: sales managers, accountants, inventory managers, purchase users and administrators keep seeing everything the moment you install. Salespersons lose it. Add or remove anyone later with a role or the group.
Salespersons keep selling
They still quote, confirm, deliver and invoice. Odoo keeps computing the margin in the background for the people who may see it. Nothing is changed or lost when you install or remove the module.
Honest about the limits
Vendor prices, stock valuation, manufacturing cost and Point of Sale reports belong to other apps and are protected by those apps' rights: do not give them to salespersons. The documentation lists exactly what is and is not covered.

Illustrated documentation in English and Arabic, an Arabic translation of the module and 12 automated tests, including the API calls.

Frequently asked questions
Does it only hide the fields in the screens?
No. It protects the fields on the model itself, so JSON-RPC and XML-RPC reads, searches, group-bys and exports by a salesperson are refused as well.
Who still sees the cost and the margin?
Everyone with the group “See Product Cost & Margins”. It is given automatically through sales administrators, accountants, inventory administrators, purchase users and settings administrators. You can add anyone else.
Can salespersons still create, confirm and invoice orders?
Yes. The margin is still computed in the background for the people who may see it, and the workflow does not change.
Which fields are hidden?
The product cost, the cost, margin and margin % of order lines, the margin of orders, the margin in the sales analysis, and the margin and inventory value in the invoice analysis.
What is not covered?
Vendor prices, purchase orders, stock valuation, manufacturing cost and Point of Sale reports belong to other apps and are protected by those apps' access rights. Do not give them to salespersons.
Is any data changed when I install or remove it?
No. Nothing is changed or deleted. Removing the module makes cost and margin visible to all internal users again, as in standard Odoo.
Will my custom modules break?
Code that reads the cost as a salesperson gets an access error. Use sudo() for the cost in that code, or give the user the group. The documentation shows how.
Does it support Arabic?
Yes. The module ships an Arabic translation, and the documentation is available in Arabic with right-to-left layout.
