In plain words: Odoo Community records everything, but the four reports every accountant, auditor and bank asks for are Enterprise features. Financial Reports adds them: the trial balance, the general ledger, the profit and loss and the balance sheet, for any period, on posted entries or all, with a comparison, on screen, in PDF and in Excel.
Tip: Every figure comes from your journal items, with no copy of the data. The trial balance and the balance sheet show a difference that must be zero.
What you get
| Report | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Trial Balance | Opening balance, debits, credits and closing balance of every account, with the totals. |
| General Ledger | Each account with its opening balance, every journal item (date, entry, partner, label) and a running balance. |
| Profit and Loss | Income, cost of revenue, gross profit, other income, expenses and net profit, with a comparison column. |
| Balance Sheet | Assets, liabilities and equity on any date, with the earnings of the year and of the previous years, with a comparison. |
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Posted or all entries | Posted entries only, or the drafts too. |
| Journals and accounts | Limit a report to some journals, or the ledger to some accounts. |
| Comparison | Against the previous period or the same period last year. |
| Fiscal years | Income and expense accounts start from zero each fiscal year; their past results are in the unallocated earnings. |
| Output | On screen, PDF and Excel. Arabic and right to left. |

Run a report
In plain words: Open Invoicing → Reporting → Financial Reports and choose a report. Choose the period and the options, then press Show the report.
| Field | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Period (From, To) | The dates of the report. The default start is the first day of the fiscal year. The balance sheet needs only the date it is as of. |
| Entries | Posted entries, or all entries (drafts included, cancelled never). |
| Compare with | Profit and loss and balance sheet: the previous period, or the same period last year. |
| Journals, Accounts | Empty means all. |
| Hide empty accounts | Leaves out the accounts with nothing to show. |
Tip: The Difference field must show zero. On the trial balance it is debits minus credits; on the balance sheet, assets minus liabilities and equity.
Trial balance
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Opening | The balance before the first day. For income and expense accounts, the balance since the start of the fiscal year; the results of earlier years are in the line Unallocated Earnings (previous years), so that the openings add up to zero. |
| Debit, Credit | The movements of the period. |
| Balance | Opening plus debit minus credit. A negative balance is a credit balance. |
General ledger
In plain words: For each account: the opening balance, every journal item of the period with a running balance, and the totals. Limit it to some accounts or journals for a quick look; a period with more than 20,000 items must be narrowed.
Profit and loss
In plain words: Income, minus the cost of revenue, is the gross profit; plus other income and minus the expenses it is the net profit. Each account is listed under its section.
Balance sheet
In plain words: Assets (receivables, bank and cash, current, prepayments, non-current, fixed), liabilities (payables, credit cards, current, non-current) and equity, with the earnings of the current year and of the previous years. Total assets equal total liabilities and equity.
Print and export
In plain words: Each report has Print (PDF) and Export to Excel.
Who can use it
In plain words: Users of the accounting groups: Accounting readonly, Accountant and Adviser. The reports are created and thrown away by Odoo; nothing is kept for long.
Arabic and right to left
Limits
| Limit | Detail |
|---|---|
| Company currency | The reports are in the company currency, as recorded in the journal items. |
| No year-end closing | The reports do not close the year. Income and expense accounts restart each fiscal year in the reports; no closing entry is needed. |
| One company at a time | The report of the company you choose; no consolidation. |
| Layout | The statements follow the account types of Odoo, not a country's legal layout. |
| Size | The general ledger is limited to 20,000 items; narrow the period. |
For developers
In plain words: Skip this chapter if you only use the module.
report = env['taqnix.fin.report'].create({
'report_type': 'profit_loss', 'date_from': '2026-01-01', 'date_to': '2026-09-30', 'comparison': 'year',
})
report.action_compute()
for line in report.line_ids:
print(line.kind, line.name, line.balance, line.compare)Troubleshooting
| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| The Difference is not zero | On a trial balance with a journal or an account filter, a difference is expected. Otherwise look for unbalanced draft entries when you include drafts. |
| An account is missing | It has no movement and no balance in the period, and Hide empty accounts is on. |
| I do not see the menu | You need an accounting right (Readonly, Accountant or Adviser). |
| The general ledger refuses | More than 20,000 items: shorten the period or choose accounts or journals. |
Updating and removing
