Description

Group consolidation inside Accounting Pro

Accounting Pro Group Consolidation prepares the consolidated balance sheet and the consolidated profit and loss of a group of companies kept in one Odoo 19 database. It translates the members in other currencies, eliminates intercompany balances and sales, eliminates the investments against the equity at acquisition (goodwill), computes the non-controlling interests, and keeps every consolidation as a run that is validated and locked. It is an accounting tool built on the principles of IFRS 10, IFRS 3, IFRS 11 and IAS 21 with simplifications that are listed on every report and in the guide: review the figures with your accountant or auditor before you publish them.

Equity of the group, member by member

Set up the group

  • Groups: a parent company, a presentation currency and members, each with its method (full with non-controlling interests, or proportional for joint operations), ownership %, investor, investment account and acquisition date
  • Equity at acquisition typed in or computed from the books at the acquisition date; goodwill or bargain purchase shown on the member
  • Group chart created from the parent's chart, with the consolidation accounts (goodwill, translation reserve, NCI, intercompany differences)
  • Account mapping of every member account: same code, then same account type; your own choices are kept; unmapped accounts with a balance block the validation
From the members to the consolidated figure

Consolidate

  • Currency translation: assets and liabilities at the closing rate, income and expenses at the average rate (daily or month-end), equity at the historical rate; the translation reserve is the balancing amount, explained by a check table
  • Rates from Odoo; a manager can override a rate in a run with a reason; a missing rate stops the run with the currency and the date
  • Intercompany elimination of receivables and payables, and of sales and purchases, between members; the differences are never hidden: they go to their own lines and are flagged above your tolerance
  • Investment elimination with goodwill at book values, non-controlling interests at their share of the net assets and of the profit
  • Manual adjustments with a mandatory reason that must balance (unrealised profit, dividends, impairment...)
  • Runs draft, computed, validated, locked: a validated run is a snapshot that never changes; reopening needs a manager and a reason, logged
Intercompany differences never hidden

Report

  • Consolidated Balance Sheet with a column per member, the eliminations and the consolidated figures, compared with another run
  • Consolidated Profit and Loss with the profit attributable to the owners and to the NCI
  • Consolidation Worksheet: members at closing rate, translation effect, intercompany, investment, NCI, manual adjustments, consolidated
  • Intercompany Reconciliation: the matrix of the members, every pair and its difference, with the journal items of both sides
  • Consolidation Status of every group, member and run; a live preview of the consolidation at a date
  • PDF and Excel of every report, with the method and the simplifications printed; a Group net profit card on the Accounting Dashboard
Compute, validate, lock

The method and its simplifications

  • One historical rate per member for all its equity: the split between retained earnings and translation reserve is approximate for members held several years (total equity is exact)
  • Goodwill stays at the rates of the acquisition date (IAS 21.47 translates it at the closing rate: not done); one average rate per currency and run
  • Goodwill and NCI at book values (no fair-value adjustments, no full-goodwill option); ownership is the direct holding (no indirect NCI)
  • Intercompany loans on other accounts, dividends and asset transfers are manual adjustments; a dividend booked with the subsidiary as partner shows in the intercompany differences line
  • The standards were checked on summaries (ifrs.org, ICAEW, AASB 121); some paragraphs are marked as not verified in the guide
  • It is not an audit-ready set of IFRS financial statements and not professional advice
Ownership, acquisition and goodwill

What it does not do

  • No equity method (associates, joint ventures): proportional consolidation is for joint operations only
  • No automatic elimination of unrealised profit, no deferred tax on adjustments, no hyperinflation, no impairment tests
  • No step acquisitions, partial disposals or loss of control; a member in a validated run cannot be removed (after a sale, create a new group)
  • No consolidated cash-flow statement and no statement of changes in equity
  • No journal entries in the companies' books: the consolidation lives in its runs
From the books of each company to the group

Accurate

One engine gives the runs, the five reports, the dashboard card and the tests. Every run must balance to the cent: assets = liabilities + equity (including the translation reserve and the NCI), the profit in the balance sheet equals the profit attributable to the owners, and every column of the worksheet adds up to the statements. A worked example with three currencies is asserted figure by figure.

Statements to review and keep

Tested

113 automated tests of the add-on (640 with those of Accounting Pro): the worked example (translation reserve, goodwill, NCI, intercompany differences), mapping and rates, fiscal years, the run workflow and its locks, the outputs, performance, and the security of groups whose companies a user does not all have.

Frequently asked questions

What do I need to install it?

Odoo 19 (Community or Enterprise) with Accounting Pro (taqnix_accounting_pro) 1.0.2 or later (version 19.0.1.0.2) already installed: this is an add-on of Accounting Pro and it does not work without it. All the companies of the group must be in the same database, with their charts of accounts, and Odoo needs currency rates for every member currency. The users who consolidate must be allowed in the parent and in every member company.

How is it different from the multi-company reports of Accounting Pro?

The Accounting Pro reports can cover several companies: they add the companies together in one currency, with no elimination, no translation reserve, no goodwill and no non-controlling interests. This add-on consolidates: it maps every member account to a group chart, translates each member at the closing, average and historical rates, eliminates intercompany balances, sales and the investments, computes goodwill and non-controlling interests, and keeps the result in runs that are validated and locked.

Does it comply with IFRS? Is it audit-ready?

It is an accounting tool built on the principles of IFRS 10, IFRS 3, IFRS 11 and IAS 21, with simplifications that are listed on every report, on the PDF and in the guide (for example one historical rate for all the equity of a member, goodwill kept at the rates of the acquisition date, goodwill and NCI at book values). The standards were checked on summaries, and some paragraphs are marked as not verified. It does not produce audit-ready IFRS financial statements and it is not professional advice: review the figures with your accountant or auditor before you publish them.

How are the figures computed?

Each member's posted journal items up to the period end are mapped to the group chart and translated: assets and liabilities at the closing rate, income and expenses at the average rate (daily or month-end), equity at the member's historical rate. The translation reserve is the amount that balances each translated member, explained by a check table. Intercompany receivables, payables, sales and purchases between members are eliminated, the investment is eliminated against the equity at acquisition (goodwill = investment - share of that equity, at book values) and the non-controlling interests take their share of the net assets and of the profit. Every run must balance to the cent.

What happens with intercompany differences?

They are never hidden. When the two sides of a pair do not agree (an invoice booked by one company only, an exchange difference, a dispute), the difference goes to its own line, Intercompany differences, and the pair is flagged when it is above the tolerance of the settings. The Intercompany Reconciliation report lists every pair with the journal items of both sides.

What does it not do?

No equity method (associates and joint ventures: proportional consolidation is for joint operations only), no automatic elimination of unrealised profit, no deferred tax on adjustments, no hyperinflation, no fair-value adjustments, no indirect non-controlling interests, no goodwill impairment tests, no step acquisitions or partial disposals, no consolidated cash-flow statement, no analysis of the translation reserve movement. Loans on other accounts, dividends and asset transfers inside the group are manual adjustments. A member in a validated run can never be removed: after a sale, create a new group.

Does it post entries in my companies' books?

No. The consolidation lives in its runs: a run stores its lines, rates and adjustments as a snapshot, so a validated or locked run never changes when somebody posts later. Reopening a run needs a consolidation manager and a reason, written in a log.

Who can see the group and its figures?

Only users allowed in the parent company and in every member company of the group. A user who lacks one member company sees no group, no run, no report figure and no dashboard card of that group. Consolidation users compute runs and add manual adjustments; consolidation managers set up groups, members, the chart and the mapping, override rates, validate, lock and reopen runs. Drill-downs to the journal items show rows when every company of the group is active in the company switcher. The name of the default group set on the parent company can be read by users lacking a member company; its figures cannot.

Is it available in Arabic?

Yes. The add-on, its guide and its screens come in English and Arabic, and the reports, the PDF and the Excel files work right to left.
