What do I need to install it?+
Odoo 19 with Accounting Pro 1.0.2 or later (taqnix_accounting_pro) already installed: this is an add-on of Accounting Pro, and its installation is refused on an older Accounting Pro (update Accounting Pro first). It was built and tested on Odoo 19 Community; Odoo Enterprise, which has its own lock date screen and financial reports, was not tested with it. For a close to set lock dates, the person who closes must be an accounting Administrator.
How does it set the lock dates?+
Odoo 19 Community has no lock date screen, so the closes do it. Closing a period moves the lock dates you chose in Settings (the global lock date by default; also the tax return, sales and purchase lock dates, and a hard lock never, when a fiscal year is closed or at every close) to the end of the period through the company record, so Odoo's own checks run, for example on unreconciled bank transactions. A close only moves lock dates forward. Reopening needs a reason, moves them back to the end of the previous closed period, and is refused while a later period is closed or when the hard lock date covers the period. Every change is written to the audit log.
What does the checklist check by itself?+
Eight automatic checks come with the add-on: no draft journal entries in the period, no draft invoices or bills, bank transactions reconciled up to the end date, the trial balance balances, bank suspense and transfer accounts at zero, receivable and payable items with a partner, nothing added to closed periods after their close, and the year-end closing entry posted. Two more, depreciation posted and VAT return filed, exist only when the Fixed Assets and GCC VAT Returns add-ons of Accounting Pro are installed. The checks run when the review starts, on demand, every day and again at the close, and Show lists what is in the way. A period cannot be closed while a mandatory task is not done.
Will the profit and loss of a closed year show zero?+
Not in Accounting Pro. The closing entry brings every income and expense account to zero on the last day of the year, and the reports of a period (profit and loss, cash flow, ratios, changes in equity, analytic profit and loss, the dashboard) leave it out, so a closed year still shows its real profit. The balance sheet, the trial balance, the ledgers and the books include it, and the balance sheet, trial balance and general ledger can show the figures before the closing. Reports outside Accounting Pro do not know the closing entries and include them; uninstalling the add-on keeps the entries, so reverse the closings first.
How is the statutory reserve computed, and is it legal advice?+
The reserve is a percentage of the profit until the reserve account reaches a percentage of the share capital. Both are settings: 10 % until 50 % by default, the figures the screen gives for the UAE; it also gives 10 % until 30 % for the former KSA Companies Law. Dividends go to a dividends payable account and other reserves to their account, the remainder stays in retained earnings, and the calculation is shown before the entry is made. The add-on is an accounting tool, not legal advice: check the percentages, the accounts and the amounts against the current law that applies to your company and with your auditor.
What does it not do?+
There are no lock date exceptions and no lock date screen of its own, no weekly or custom period types, no automatic accruals, no consolidation, no dividend payments or withholding and no offset of losses against reserves. The checks count and list but fix nothing; the check of closed periods does not see an older entry re-dated into a closed period, the suspense accounts of archived bank journals are not checked, and most checks count the records of the period's own company, not those of its branches. Closing entries create no analytic items, archived accounts with a balance block the closing, and a year with nothing to close cannot pass its mandatory year-end task unless that task is made optional before the review starts.
Who can do what?+
Accountants (Accounting Pro: closing, given with Odoo's Show Full Accounting Features) see the periods, start reviews, do the tasks and run the checks; accounting administrators (Accounting Pro: closing manager) also manage the checklists, create, close and reopen periods, and run the year-end closing and the appropriation. Changing lock dates needs the accounting Administrator right. A user with only the Accounting Pro reports group reads the periods and opens Close Status. Every user sees only the companies they have access to.
Can the close history be changed afterwards?+
Not through Odoo. The audit log cannot be edited or deleted by anybody, not even an administrator; the status of a period changes only with its buttons; a reviewed or closed period cannot be deleted; and the year-end entries are posted, cancelled and deleted only by closing managers and reversed only from their year-end closing, never with Odoo's Reverse button.
Is it available in Arabic?+
Yes. The add-on, its guide and its screens come in English and Arabic, and the screen, the PDF and the Excel file of Close Status work right to left.
